The foundation is everything (AI Operating Model)
The foundation is everything. Miss it and you're capped, no matter how good your tools look.
I keep seeing two versions of the same trap.
In finance: a business looks decision-ready on the surface, clean dashboards, a tidy Quality of Earnings, while underneath it runs on systems that don't talk and data three tools disagree on. The numbers are only as trustworthy as the operating layer beneath them, and in most companies nobody owns that layer.
In AI: a team buys the models, writes some prompts, stands up a few skills, and it feels like momentum. Then it stalls. Skills and agents amplify whatever they run on. Point them at fragmented systems and undocumented processes, and they just amplify the mess, faster.
Prompts and skills aren't the operating model. They're what you build on top of one.
The fix uses the same instinct a great finance operator already has. A QofE maps a target's financial reality. We map a business's operating reality: the systems, processes, data flows, and handoffs. Same rigor, one layer down. Then you build on what the map shows, documented processes, reusable skills, an AI operating model the business actually owns and runs. Foundation first, then automation, then agents and apps, measured the whole way.
Here's the short version of what that looks like.
Buy all the AI you want. Without the foundation, you're limited.
